South Korea has successfully conducted performance tests on a combuster that will be used in a Korean-built space rocket.

The Korea Aerospace Research Institute said all five ground combustion tests yielded positive results on the seven-ton combustor, which is a major part of the rocket's three-stage engine.

A combustor, which propels a space rocket by letting out high-temperature, high-pressured gas, should be able to withstand temperatures of more than three-thousand degrees Celcius.

South Korea plans to launch the domestically developed space rocket in 2020.
