South Chungcheong Province says it is conducting an epidemiological study after a dog was discovered with an antibody to avian influenza, commonly known as bird flu.
 
Provincial authorities say the dog was bred at a bird-flu infected farm in Cheonan, a city in the west central part of the country. They say the feces of three dogs at the farm tested positive to the antibody of the virulent H5 strain of bird flu.
 
This means the dog became immune to the flu after becoming infected. The provincial authorities said this is an unprecedented occurrence between different animal species in Korea.
