Meteor Observed in Skies over Korean Peninsula

A very bright meteor was sighted in the skies over the Korean Peninsula on Sunday night.

The meteor's flight was captured for a few seconds by cameras and vehicle black boxes all across South Korea.

The Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute analyzed the videos. It said on Monday that given the shining trail, the falling object is believed to be a meteor which explodes when it enters the Earth’s atmosphere and leaves a wake of glowing material.

The institute said meteors are often observed in polar regions, but this was the first time the image of a bright meteor was captured over the peninsula.
