Gangneung Sees Record Snowfall

Snow blanketed Gangneung City on South Korea's east coast for nine straight days, one of the longest snowfalls in the region over the past one hundred years.

Gangneung Regional Meteorological Administration said 110 centimeters of snow fell from Thursday last week through Friday.

In 1969, the city saw nine straight days of snow, but total snowfall was only 109-point-seven centimeters.

Nine days is the longest snowfall in the region since related records were first kept in 1911.

The weather agency forecast it will begin snowing again on the east coast from Monday and continue for three days.
