Written: 2014-01-21 14:53:37Updated: 2014-01-21 16:42:55

The government has begun discussing ways to develop wearable robots.

The state-run Defense Acquisition Program Administration held a conference on Tuesday about the robots, also known as powered exoskeletons, at the Agency for Defense Development. Officials, industry experts and academics were invited to the event in Daejeon City.

Thirteen state-funded research institutes as well as businesses and universities are taking part in the joint civic and military project.

The wearable, lower-body robots can help soldiers carry heavy weapons and supplies in rough, mountainous terrain. They can also be used in disaster relief.

The Agency for Defense Development will further strive to develop technologies for the robot, including using sensor detection to determine what moves the wearer will make.
