South Chungcheong Province has ordered emergency quarantine measures in the region following the discovery of avian influenza in North Jeolla Province.

It ordered six cities and counties to take measures in areas where migratory birds are known to live including Cheonsoo Bay and Gumgan River.

Meanwhile, South Gyeongsang Province dispatched a quarantine team to a reservoir and swamp in the area. Provincial authorities are also spraying disinfectants in poultry slaughterhouses in Jinju, Geoje and other nearby areas.

Busan city has also stepped up quarantine measures in the region.
