Central Region Under First Cold Wave Watch of Winter

Most of South Korea’s central region is under the first cold wave watch of the winter.

Seoul’s morning lows stood at minus nine-point-one degrees Celsius at 5 a.m. Thursday, down 12 degrees from the same time the day before. The wind chill stood at nearly minus 13 degrees Celsius.

Morning lows in Dongducheon stood at minus nine-point-seven degrees, minus ten degrees in Paju and minus eight in Incheon.

The temperature fell to minus two-point-four degrees Celsius in Gangneung and minus eleven-and-a-half degrees in Daegwallyeong.

The Korea Meteorological Administration said the cold weather is due to cold winds blowing from the northern part of the Korean Peninsula.

It said the cold weather will ease up from Saturday.
