Government Plans to Build 7 New Nuclear Reactors

The government has announced plans to build seven more nuclear power plants to generate an additional seven million kilowatts of electricity.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy unveiled the plan in a report to a related parliamentary committee. The envisioned plants would be constructed in addition to four plants the government previously announced would be built.

The ministry said the country has to build the new plants to raise the energy share of nuclear power reactors to 29 percent by the year 2035.

South Korea is currently operating 23 nuclear reactors.
