Saturday Marks Winter-low Temperatures in S. Korea

South Korea recorded the coldest day of the winter on Saturday as cold winds blew southward across the peninsula.

The Korea Meteorological Administration said the morning low in Seoul was minus nine-point-eight degrees Celsius.

Morning temperatures were much colder outside of the capital, though. In Gangwon Province, the mountain pass of Daegwallyeong recorded a chilly 18 degrees below Celcius, while the mercuy dropped to 17 below in Cheorwon, a county in the same province.

Paju, a city northwest of Seoul in Gyeonggi Province, saw morning lows plunge to minus 15-point-three degrees.

The weather agency forecast the icy weather will ease from Sunday and average yearly temperatures will return by Monday.
