They say hip hop is dead. Taking a look at Korean music these days, it's hard not to agree.
Though almost every group has a "rapper" member, the overall product or song is not exactly hip hop. Some of the biggest hip hop names in Korean music are still doing their thing, but it's hard to encounter new hip hop acts that solely love and focus on hip hop.
Well, in comes M.I.B. Signed under the same company as the "godfather of Korean hip hop", Tiger JK, his hip hop wife Yoon Mi-rae (aka T), and one of the most established hip hop duos, Leessang, newbie group M.I.B hopes to continue the legacy.
Each of the four members have been doing their thing fueled by their love for music. Leader 5zic (Oh-jik) was inspired by Tiger JK's (aka Drunken Tiger) first album and knew he wanted to be a rapper ever since. It was a similar case for Cream who was blown away by Leessang's 1st album that wasn't afraid to dig deep and criticize society. Sims showed a kind of rare dedication to his dreams that even moved some of the mighty entertainment agencies. He sent in a demo tape every single week, hoping to get discovered. KangNam is half Japanese with a Japanese father and a Korean mother. He was pretty active in the underground scene in Japan in the groups Orange Range and Kick Chob (KCB).
The fate of these four members intertwined and now they are M.I.B., a group that hopes to continue the hip hop movement and perhaps even place first on the US Billboard charts like the all-Asian group Far*East Movement did in 2010.
Their debut album, Most Incredible Busters, features solo tracks as well as collaborative group songs. The most impressive part is that the album is produced by the members. They are not only singers/rappers/performers, but producers, songwriters, and lyricists.
