'Winter Could Disappear in Korea' |

 The Korea Meteorological Administration warns that Korea could see winter disappear and be hit by more super typhoons in this century if global warming continues.
The administration’s climate change watch center says that if global warming continues unchecked, the entire country except for the inlands near the Taebaek and Sobaek mountains will turn to subtropical regions between 2071 and 2100.
The center based the prediction on average temperatures between 1971 and 2000 and a numerical forecast model.
The expected rise in water temperatures near the Korean Peninsula will be two to four degrees, and this will increase the odds of a super typhoon hitting Korea like Hurricane Katrina. Water temperature is a key factor in determining the strength of a typhoon, as warmer water raises the potential frequency of a super powerful typhoon. |
