Armed Forces Day Ceremony to be Held on Sept. 28th

A ceremony marking the nation’s 69th Armed Forces Day will be held on September 28th at a naval base for the first time ever.

The Defense Ministry said Thursday that the ceremony, which will also be the first of its kind to be held under the Moon Jae-in government, will take place at the Navy’s Second Fleet Command in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province.

Though the Armed Forces Day falls on October first, the ministry decided to move the ceremony up due to the Chuseok holidays which will run between September 30th and October ninth.

In this year’s ceremony, the military will reveal its Hyunmoo-2 and Hyunmoo-3 ballistic missiles among other strategic weapons in a bid to display its deterrence capabilities against North Korea.

General Vincent Brooks, Commander of the South Korea-U.S. Combined Forces Command, will be granted the Tongil Order of National Security Merit. Brooks will become the first the leader of the South Korea-U.S. Combined Forces Command to receive a medal at an Armed Forces Day ceremony.

The upcoming ceremony will also feature a demonstration of special forces jumping out of planes, an acrobatic flight performance by the Air Force's Black Eagles and a martial art performance.
