Vice Minister to Make Every Effort to Ensure N. Korea Joins Winter Olympics

South Korea's Vice Unification Minister Chun Hae-sung has vowed to make every effort to realize North Korea's participation in the PyeongChang Winter Olympics next February.
Speaking at a forum in Berlin on Friday, the vice minister said the government will work with the International Olympic Committee to ensure the North’s participation.
He pledged to dispel global concerns about North Korea’s provocations and make the winter games an Olympics of peace.
Meanwhile, Moon Chung-in, President Moon Jae-in's special adviser on unification, diplomacy and security, said at the same forum that North Korea should stop its nuclear and missile activities during the PyeongChang Games, while South Korea and the U.S. can also consider scaling back or halting their joint military drills.
Moon stressed the Olympics can serve as an opportunity to bring stability to inter-Korean relations and to Northeast Asia.
The Korea Global Forum in Berlin was held on the topic of "peace on the Korean Peninsula and global cooperation." It was jointly hosted by the Unification Ministry, South Korea's Asan Institute for Policy Studies and the German Konrad Adenauer Foundation.
