China’s state-run People’s Daily newspaper has warned North Korea as it is known to be preparing for the launch of a mid-range Musudan missile.
A Chinese international affairs expert said in a column carried by the daily that even if Pyongyang has hundreds of reasons to strengthen its armaments, it has no reason to conduct a nuclear test or fire a ballistic missile in violation of UN Security Council resolutions. He stressed that North Korea should not misjudge the current political situation on the Korean Peninsula.
The column said that the North cannot blame South Korea for escalating tensions on the Korean Peninsula since last year, warning the political situation in Korea might not necessarily unfold as Pyongyang expects.
Another Chinese newspaper, the Global Times, also criticized the North in an editorial, saying that it has gone too far.
