The Korea Automobile Importers and Distributors Association said Wednesday imported car sales in July rose 7.2 percent from a month earlier to 729 units for the third straight month of rise.
The figure marks the largest monthly tally for imported car sales this year.
During the January-July period, imported car sales totaled led 4,251 units, up 78.6 percent from the same period last year. The figure is ready equal to 96.3 percent of last year's total sales of 4,414 units.
With 271 automobiles sold, BMW Korea held the biggest piece of the import pie in July at 37.7 percent.
Han Sung Motor, local distributor for Mercedes-Benz and Porsche, sold 116 cars in July, an 11.5-percent surge from the previous record in June.
Sales by Daimler Chrysler rose 10 percent in July to 88 units.
Gojin Motors, local dealer of Audi and Volkswagen models, ranked fourth with 67 cars sold last month, defeating Toyota Korea with 64 vehicles sold.
PAG Korea, which handles Volvo, Jaguar and Land Rover, sold 53 cars in July, Ford Korea 50 and General Motors 20.
