Singer Kim Jang-hoon Swims to Dokdo in Relay

South Korean singer Kim Jang-hoon has successfully swum to the Dokdo islets as part of a three-day project.

Kim, actor Song Il-kuk and about 40 students from Korea National Sport University swam 220 kilometers in a relay from the east coast port of Uljin, North Gyeongsang Province to the Dokdo islets in the East Sea.

The last swimmer arrived at the volcanic outcroppings at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Independence Day, 48 hours and 30 minutes after the first swimmer started the relay at 7 a.m. on Monday.

Famed late swimmer Cho Oh-ryun and his two sons swam to Dokdo from nearby Ulleung Island in 2005, but this is the first time that an entertainer has swum from the mainland to the islets in a relay.
