The nation has begun its switch from analog to digital broadcasting by concluding analog TV broadcasts in Uljin, North Gyeongsang Province.
The Korea Communications Commission (KCC) at 2 p.m. in Uljin permanently ended analog transmissions by terrestrial broadcasting stations and began digital TV transmissions.
The end of analog TV broadcasting comes 49 years after the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) first began transmitting black-and-white TV programming in 1961.
All television broadcasting will be digital by 2013.
