Profile Technocrat Han Song-ryong has extensive experience in the machinery industry.

He became vice director of the Department of the Machinery Industry in 1970 and was promoted to director a year later. In 1972, he took over the Shipping Machinery Industry Bureau. The Central Committee of the Korean Workers’ Party in 1980 made him a cadre candidate. In 1981, he was named chairman of the Economic Planning Committee of Jagang Province and promoted to cadre by the party’s Central Committee in 1986. Two years later, he took over the 2nd Economic Committee and was named a cadre candidate of the party’s Political Committee. In 1988, he was named the Central Committee’s economic secretary.

Named cadre by the party’s Political Committee in 1990, he was appointed chief of the heavy industry bureau of the party’s Central Committee’s in 1992, chairman of the Supreme People’s Assembly’s Budget Committee in 1993 and chief of the party’s economic policy review board in 1994.

Han in 2006 accompanied North Korean leader Kim Jong-il on his visit to Shanghai, China.
