US Human Rights Envoy to KBS: US to Release Report Within Days
2016-07-01 Updated.

A U.S. special envoy for North Korean human rights issues has said that Washington will release this week a report featuring new sanctions against North Korean officials, who are responsible for human rights violations.

In an interview with KBS on Wednesday, Robert King said the U.S. State Department is supposed to report various issues concerning North Korea’s human rights violations to the U.S. Congress.

He said the latest report to the congress will likely include matters regarding the role of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in the regime’s human rights violations.

It is unclear whether Kim will be subject to any U.S. sanctions himself, but King indicated that he will be mentioned in the report in any manner.

Japan’s Asahi Shimbun reported earlier this year that around 10 North Korean officials involved in the management of political prison camps are expected to be put under new U.S. sanctions for their human rights violation.
