N. Korea's Party Congress Continues, Day 1 Footage of Congress Unveiled
2016-05-07 Updated.

The North Korean Workers' Party congress entered its second day on Saturday as the Central Committee continued with its report on the result of its projects to the gathering held behind doors.

The Korean Central News Agency said Friday that the Central Committee is continuing on with the presentation of its accomplishments to the congress on the second day.

The North also unveiled footage of the first day of the party congress on Friday.

The video released Friday night shows leader Kim Jong-un entering the congress hall amid applause from some three thousand representatives.

He kicked off the party event on the same spot where his grandfather Kim Il-sung had stood 36 years ago.

In the opening remarks, Kim touted the success of the North's nuclear tests and long-range missile launches in spite of global sanctions.

He declared the opening of the congress saying the congress will mark a historical new milestone in the struggle towards completion of socialist achievements.

Throughout the speech, Kim read from white paper held in his hand.

Seen on the podium was parliamentary leader Kim Yong-nam and Hwang Pyong-so, director of the North Korean military's General Political Bureau.

On the reports of the Workers' Party's projects, Kim stressed that the party was invincible, and proposed strategic platforms and tasks for socialist prosperity.

Meanwhile, North Korean media reported that the Communist Party of China sent a congratulatory message to the North's Workers' Party to celebrate the opening of the 7th party congress on Friday.
