Draft Resolution on N. Korean Human Rights Submitted to UN General Assembly
2015-10-31 Updated.

The United Nations has officially submitted a new draft resolution on North Korean human rights to the General Assembly.

In the draft handed in on Friday, New York time, the international body called for referring the North's human rights violations to the International Criminal Court and punishing the North's highest ranking officials responsible for crimes against humanity.

The resolution also includes calls to induce substantive change from the regime including penalizing human rights violators inside North Korea and urging Pyongyang to allow a visit by the UN special rapporteur on North Korean human rights.

The UN draft also welcomed the recent inter-Korean family reunions and called for even more extensive efforts for reunions of families separated by the Korean War.
