'Envoy's Russia Trip is Result of NK-Russia Cooperation Against US'
2014-11-25 Updated.

A pro-North Korean newspaper based in Japan said that a recent visit to Russia by a top aide to North Korean Leader Kim Jong-un shows the cooperation system between Pyongyang and Moscow against the United States worked.

Reporting on Choe Ryong-hae’s recent meeting with Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, the Choson Sinbo said Tuesday that the cooperation system between the two nations was to ensure the United States will not create a confrontational situation.

The report said that the North conveyed to Russia its intent to resume the six-party nuclear talks without pre-conditions and the Russian foreign minister supported the effort.

The paper said that a letter from Kim Jong-un that Choe delivered to Russian President Vladimir Putin included the North’s proposals aimed at significantly enhancing bilateral cooperation in politics, trade and military. The two sides are said to have reached agreement in principle on the proposals.

Regarding Russian hopes for a project to link rail lines between the two Koreas, the paper said that if the U.S. intensifies tensions on the Korean Peninsula, the two Koreas will be unable to pursue the project.
