KCNA: Pyongyang, Moscow Discuss Measures to Strengthen Military Ties
2014-11-21 Updated.

The North’s state media said Friday that North Korea and Russia have discussed measures to enhance defense ties between the two countries.

The North’s official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said that No Kwang-chol, vice chief of the General Staff of the North's Army, met with Andrei Kartapolov, the head of the Main Operations Directorate of the HQ of Russia's military forces, in Moscow on Wednesday. No was accompanying Choe Ryong-hae, a special envoy of the North's leader Kim Jong-un, who met Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday.

The KCNA said that both sides had a wide-ranging exchange of views on putting the friendship and cooperation between the armies of the two countries on a new higher stage, but did not go into detail of what was discussed between No and Kartapolov.

The news agency said a defense official of the North Korean embassy in Russia as well as a deputy to Kartapolov were also present in the meeting.

Meanwhile, the KCNA said North Korean Vice Economy Minister Ri Kwang-gun also met with Alexander Galushka, minister for the development of the Russian Far East, in Moscow on Wednesday and discussed cooperative measures on economy and trade.
