President-elect Lee Myung-bak said Friday that he'll work with China to upgrade bilateral relations not only in economy but in all other sectors.
Meeting in his Seoul office with Chinese Ambassador Ning Fukui, Lee said the two countries have consistently agreed on diplomatic issues. He added that his administration will strive to deepen their relations.
Lee also told the Chinese envoy of his high expectations for China's role in getting North Korea to give up its nuclear program.
The envoy delivered a letter from Chinese President Hu Jintao to congratulate Lee on his election victory.
Lee's spokesman Park Hyung-joon told reporters that the Chinese leader showed deep interest in Lee's call for "pragmatic diplomacy" and proposed an exchange of special envoys before the inauguration in February.
